Task 6
1.
The ASA
known as the advertising standards authority, are ones who regulates TV
adverts. They have rules to make sure that no adverts are offensive, harmful,
misleading and not start conflict.
2.
If a
person is watching an advert and they find the advert offensive or harmful,
they will send a letter or an E-mail describing the advert and also explain why
they felt that the advert was offensive or harmless. Then if successful the ASA
will read it and process it and see whether or not the advert should be banned
or not.
Step 3
4.
The paddy
power advert is about a group of middle age men playing blind football with a
white blindfold around their eyes playing football. A cat suddenly ran near the
entrance to the Astroturf. One of the middle age men kicked the ball and it hit
the gate where the cat was, the cat pounced and ran onto the Astroturf then one
of the men with the blind fold kicked the cat into the air and because the cat
made a noise the man looked up whilst the blind fold was still on, all of a
sudden man wearing a suit comes out from no where and says “ paddy power cant
get twiddles back there’s nothing we can do about that but you can get your
money back with our money back specialist and the man in the suit looks up to
see the cat on a tree.
5.
This advert
could be banned because of two main reasons. The First main reason is that it
mocks blind people because of the blindfold and also in the advert when the
person kicked the ball and it hit the gate they would of hard the ball hit the
gate and the ball would of bounce somewhere so therefore they gamed would of
paused until a new one was passed and as the cat was running around the referee
should of blew the whistle earlier. The next reason is that in the advert it
showed animal cruelty because when the man kicked the cat in the air and the
man wearing the suit came and said “paddy power cant get twiddles back there’s
nothing we can do” “but you can get your money back” shows that they don’t care
about where the cat has gone to or how they can save the cat but they can get
their money back. This is offensive because it shows that they don’t care about
animal life and all they care about is money.
6.
This
advert shouldn’t be banned because even though it has animal cruelty it isn’t
false advertising because paddy power only deal with gambolling and money so
when the man said “paddy power cant get twiddles back, there’s nothing we can
do” even though it was rude to say that he does have a point because they only
deal with money and gambolling.
7.
The Internet
research explains that the paddy power 2010 advert had so many complaints
because it was accused for mocking blind people and also promoting animal
cruelty. The ASA commented that the advert was “surreal and Light Hearted”.
8.
I think
the regulators were right about banning this advert because it would convince
more people to play the blind football and some people we even mock blind
people in a bad way, also it can also convince teens to start kicking cats and
other animals whilst they are out and about with friends, which can make cats
more unsafe outside.
9.
The ASA
has rules that are meant to be followed by big companies because if not this
can cause major dangers in public and this advert was against some of the rules
made from the ASA because the advert was harmful to animals and offensive to
blind people. On the other hand, this advert was not misleading because it
shows the audience that paddy power only socialises with money and gambolling
so therefore it wasn’t misleading. But it was offensive and harmful so therefore
should be banned.
