Task 3

Task 3
The SR Gibbs advert was one of the first Tv toothpaste advert in England, it was advertise in 1955. The advert expresses what the toothpaste does and also what is in the toothpaste, the toothpaste also has an animated graph showing facts and reason why you should use the toothpaste. moreover, the advert also has adjectives when it says "tingling and fresh" this is a persuasive technique because it expresses the feeling after you get when you use the toothpaste. Another Technique used in this advert is repetition, the word "tingling" has been used multiple of times expressing the feeling you get while using the toothpaste and also after. Also during the advert there is a women brushing her teeth, this shows that the advert is mainly targeted at woman because woman are known for doing the shopping in the house and looking after the whole family, so this advert is aimed at women so while the women are out shopping they can buy this brand.

The 2015 Colgate advert is very different to the 1955 SR Gibbs advert because the colgate advert is more modernise to the society we live in today. the colgate advert opens with a catchy theme song and a persuasive technique to open the advert. The technique used in the opening is a rhetorical question asking "who wants an instantly whiter smile" this is a great persuasive technique because the advert is trying to say that if you want an instantly whiter smile you should use colgate. Then the advert moves on to a pretty woman walking down the catwalk with red lipstick and smiling with her white teeth and everything in the advert is black and white and the only colour you see is red lipstick and the white teeth. the reason why this advert is set like that is because the tube of the product is red so the lipstick expresses that, and the white teeth is the end result after you use the toothpaste. The advert then later moves on to a group of women asking how she got her teeth so white quickly, showing that the product works really fast and instantly.

Similarly, even though both of the advert are set in different times they have some of the same elements in both adverts, for example both of the advert have a diagram in the advert for example the SR Gibbs advert has a diagram of a graph showing the results of gum infection and tooth decay if not using the right tooth paste, and the 2015 Colgate advert has a diagram of a toothbrush and a toothpaste showing what goes in the toothpaste to make your teeth white. They both have a nice relaxing theme song to go with the advert and make the advert persuasive. They also show product in both advert so it wouldn't be confusing to buy and you would be able to buy the right product. Lastly, both advert have women in the advert even though the SR Gibbs advert is 60 years older then the 2015 Colgate advert the mindset is still the same because the advert is targeted at women/mums because the women are more mostly do the shopping and look after everyone in the house.
