Editing is process of different shots and putting them together to make a story so it can make sense to the people that are watching the film. If there were no editing the things we would be watching would make as much sense as it could be because there wouldn't be a lot of shots to feel sympathy or empathy for the character in the film.
What Elliptical editing?
Elliptical editing is being able to fill in the gaps and make the story move on quickly, so that the story can be able to flow well without any jumpy scenes or parts. for example in the gloaming there is a scene where the lady wakes up in the forest, the editor has used elliptical editing because it will be boring to watch the woman go to sleep for 7 to 8 hours and then waking up thats why elliptical editing has been used.
Why are long shots used?
long shots are used to establish a location to show the audience where the character is also their surroundings, for example long shots are used to show us how vulnerable the character is in the location if it was a horror film or a murder scene. This shot sometimes makes the audience feel for the character if the character is in danger because of the surrounding they are in. Moreover.
What is ‘non-diagetic sound’?
non-diagetic sound are sounds that aren't natural in the environment that the scene is in, for example non-diagetic sounds are normally used in a sad scene to create attention and emotion so that the audience can feel sympathy for the character and can also relate to them to feel how they will feel if they were in their shoes.
How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring?
Because the editor has chosen to do a cut scene between the ring and the girl to show she is analysing the ring as she is bending down.
